Return of Garry Conille to Haiti: firm call to bandits to lay down their arms and submit to justice

July 7, 2024

After a week of diplomatic meetings and strategic discussions in the United States, Garry Conille’s return to Haiti this Saturday, July 6, was marked by a press conference at the Diplomatic Lounge at Toussaint Louverture International Airport. The Haitian Prime Minister gave a positive assessment of his visit, highlighting progress in bilateral relations and commitments in terms of economic and security support.

The highlight of his speech was his strong call to the bandits to lay down their arms and submit to justice. “I reiterate my call to all those who possess weapons illegally to hand them over and appear before the courts,” he stressed.

Recently criticized for his comments on Radio France Internationale (RFI) concerning a possible willingness to dialogue with the gangs, Conille wanted to clarify his position. He insisted that justice will crack down with all necessary rigor against armed gangs, affirming that it is not a question of negotiations with criminals, but of guaranteeing justice for the victims.

The Prime Minister concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to combating insecurity and establishing a true rule of law.
