Law enforcement authorities carried out a major operation on Monday, June 1, 2026, in Village de Dieu, a neighborhood in downtown Port-au-Prince, during which several gang members were killed and six assault rifles were seized, according to the Haitian National Police (HNP).
According to police authorities, the intervention is part of a series of intensive operations launched over the past two weeks in the area, which had long been controlled by armed groups and remained inaccessible to law enforcement for nearly five years.
The Haitian National Police stated that operations are continuing on Tuesday in the neighborhood, with the objective of restoring state authority and securing strategic areas of the capital’s downtown district.
This latest intervention marks an escalation in security forces’ efforts to combat gang violence in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area.
Authorities have pledged to maintain pressure on local armed groups.
