As November 1, 2026 approaches, the date scheduled for the resumption of American Airlines flights between Miami and Cap-Haïtien, development work continues at the international airport of the country’s second city. The director general of the National Airport Authority (AAN in French), José Bernard Mathias Schettini, indicates that the facilities are being prepared in order to improve passenger reception and the operating conditions of the American company.
The announced return of the carrier is to restore a direct daily connection between Miami and Cap-Haïtien, after a period marked by the suspension of flights by major American companies due to security concerns. American Airlines representatives are expected soon to install their counters and equipment, while the planned arrangements will also benefit the other carriers present on the platform.
In this context, the Cap-Haïtien airport is strengthening its role in international travel, notably for members of the diaspora and business travelers. Bernard Schettini also highlights the contribution of Sunrise Airways, which maintained connections to the United States during the absence of the major American companies, and affirms that suitable spaces are planned to facilitate its operations.
Beyond the return of American Airlines, the AAN is considering other improvements, notably a reorganization of commercial spaces and the airport surroundings. Its director general mentions the possibility of welcoming other major companies as early as January 2027, with the ambition of making the airport more functional and offering better conditions to travelers.
