Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele Threatens Gangs After Kidnapping of Four Salvadorans

October 24, 2026

Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele issued a warning to the Haitian gangs responsible for the kidnapping of four Salvadoran nationals, according to a statement published on the social network X.

The four victims, aviation technicians participating in an international medical evacuation mission, are not combatants. They were reportedly kidnapped Sunday evening, in the Croix-des-Bouquets area, after an attack attributed to the Viv Ansanm armed group against their armored vehicle.

Faced with this situation, Nayib Bukele announced the launch of a military operation aimed at rescuing the hostages and bringing them back alive, without injuries.

He also warned gang leaders that the actions taken so far represented only a beginning compared to the possible consequences of a refusal to release them.

Recalling his policy of fighting gangs in El Salvador, the president called on the kidnappers to immediately release the four men.
