A new group of 161 Haitians was deported from the United States and received Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Cap-Haïtien International Airport. The aircraft, departing from Alexandria, Louisiana, transited through Miami before landing in Haiti around midday.
According to the National Migration Office (ONM), 175 people were initially expected, but only 161 were ultimately disembarked, including children. According to reports from the Miami Herald, some passengers had already been subject to a deportation order following their illegal entry into the United States, while others had served prison sentences or had been arrested and prosecuted for criminal offenses.
This repatriation constitutes the eighth deportation flight organized by US authorities to Haiti since the beginning of 2026. However, it is the first since the end of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) granted to Haitian nationals, a development that foreshadows an intensification of forced returns.
US authorities have already warned the Haitian government of an upcoming increase in the number of flights, as TPS beneficiaries lose their immigration protection. The Trump administration thus plans to organize two flights per week to repatriate approximately 250 Haitians to their country of origin.
