Former President Michel Joseph Martelly officially submitted his registration on Tuesday, September 22, as a candidate for the 2026 presidential election under the DEBLOKE banner. This move comes at the end of the timeframe provided by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) for online candidate registration, as the electoral process enters a dossier review phase.
Martelly’s return to the electoral arena had begun to take shape in late August when he registered as a voter at Lycée de Pétion-Ville, fueling speculation about a potential candidacy ever since. For its part, DEBLOKE had already taken a stance on the organization of the vote by requesting, on August 18, guarantees regarding state neutrality and security conditions for the process.
However, this registration does not yet mean that Michel Martelly is definitively accepted to run. The CEP plans to analyze applications through September 28, publish a preliminary list on September 29, followed by a period of challenges and appeals before publishing the final list of approved candidates, set for October 14.
