August 17, 2024

On August 12, 2024, Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille met with a delegation from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) at the Prime Minister’s Office in Delmas 60 for a strategic meeting about the upcoming elections in Haiti. The purpose of this meeting was to assess the ongoing political transition process and discuss the necessary steps to organize transparent elections amid the current sociopolitical crisis. The discussions sought to clarify the current challenges and reinforce efforts to restore constitutional order.

During the talks, Conille expressed his support for CARICOM’s proposals regarding election observation. This measure is viewed as a crucial step toward ensuring the credibility of the electoral process and the transparency of its results. Both parties agreed to work closely together to prepare for the elections and overcome the current obstacles to political stability.

The mutual commitment between the Haitian government and CARICOM highlights the determination of regional actors to support Haiti in its return to constitutional order. The joint efforts aim not only to organize free and fair elections but also to stabilize the country and strengthen its democratic institutions for a more stable and prosperous future.
