Fils-Aimé Government Provides Financial Support to 140 Struggling SMEs

December 22, 2024

The Haitian government has taken a significant step in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by distributing financial aid to 140 businesses during a ceremony held at the Montana Hotel. This initiative, part of the Multisectoral Emergency Program, is conducted in partnership with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and Minister of Commerce and Industry James Monazard, who attended the event, emphasized the importance of this support amid ongoing economic challenges.

The program aims to assist 250 SMEs across various regions of the country, with the objective of bolstering their resilience in the face of the current economic crisis. Beyond financial aid, the program seeks to rejuvenate the operations of these enterprises, which are integral to the local economy. In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted that SMEs serve as critical drivers of economic growth and job creation, particularly during crises.

The ceremony also featured the participation of Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Georges Wilbert Franck. Together, government officials commended the determination and resilience of Haitian entrepreneurs, who continue to contribute to economic development despite challenging circumstances. This financial support underscores their vital role and reaffirms the government’s commitment to solidarity for the future.

The program’s beneficiaries span a wide range of sectors, from retail trade to industrial production. Selected based on their vulnerability, these SMEs represent both the formal and informal economies of Haiti. Minister James Monazard stressed the importance of ensuring an equitable distribution of funds to maximize their impact on the country’s economic recovery.
