In a symbolic gesture of respect, former Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille warmly congratulated his successor, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, on his recent appointment as head of the Haitian government.
Mr. Conille, who served as Prime Minister until recently, spoke on Tuesday morning to officially acknowledge his successor’s assumption of office. In a message posted on X, he expressed his support for Mr. Fils-Aimé, wishing him success in the challenges ahead. “I acknowledge the appointment of @citoyendidier as Prime Minister of the Republic of Haiti and wish him success in carrying out this mission,” he wrote.
He continued by emphasizing the importance of a collective approach to address the current crises facing the country: “At this crucial time, unity and solidarity are essential for our country. Long live Haiti!”
This gesture is seen as an example of a peaceful transition and respect for democratic institutions. The appointment of Didier Fils-Aimé by the Transitional Presidential Council, led by Leslie Voltaire, comes amid a tense political climate in which gangs control more than 80% of the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.
