“They are not our men,” claims Nayib Bukele after the discovery of human remains in Croix-des-Bouquets

October 29, 2026

Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele has contested reports claiming that the bodies of four of his country’s nationals, missing in Haiti following an attack in Santo, had been found. Reacting to The New York Times revelations, he stated bluntly: “They are not our men,” thereby rejecting the identification of the human remains handed over to Salvadoran authorities.

According to Bukele, a non-governmental organization handed human remains over at the airport, claiming they belonged to the four missing flight technicians. However, the head of state maintains that the examined evidence does not match this account, specifying that the remains include those of a child and a man whose height is “considerably greater” than that of the missing technicians.

The Salvadoran president also pointed out the presence of a military uniform item that does not belong to his army, as well as identity cards and uniforms from other countries. These statements reignite questions regarding the fate of the four technicians and the identity of the individuals whose remains were found, as additional verifications are required to establish the facts.
