Garry Conille Calls for the Identification of the True Enemies of the Nation

August 17, 2024

During a visit to the Ministry of the Interior and Local Authorities (MILA, MICT in French), which had been vandalized by criminal groups in downtown Port-au-Prince, Prime Minister Dr. Garry Conille made a solemn appeal to the Haitian population. As the interim Minister of the Interior, he urged citizens to clearly identify the true enemies of the nation.

According to Dr. Conille, “the real enemies of the people” are those who spread terror and prevent citizens from carrying out their daily activities safely. He specifically pointed to criminals but also to politicians and other influential figures who, in his view, exploit the situation to hold the population hostage.

“The enemies of the nation are not limited to armed groups. They also include the corrupt and the corrupters who squander public resources, as well as those who supply weapons to young people in disadvantaged neighborhoods,” the Prime Minister declared. He called on the population not to be mistaken about their targets and to focus on those who undermine the efforts of the country’s honest and upright workers.

Despite everything, Dr. Conille assured the public that the government will rebuild the country’s infrastructure, including the MICT, to restore hope to the Haitian people. He reiterated the commitment of the government and the Presidential Transition Council, in collaboration with international partners, to restore security, revive development, and strengthen democracy in Haiti.
