Several passengers bound for Grenada were prevented from boarding on Wednesday at Cap-Haïtien International Airport after the discovery of fake tickets used to travel with interCaribbean Airways.
According to Jacques Étienne, the airline’s local manager, the tickets presented were not registered in the official system. Some codes corresponded to other travelers, revealing fraud orchestrated by unscrupulous agencies.
The airline has notified the judicial authorities in order to prosecute those responsible for these practices. “These are serious abuses committed to the detriment of good-faith passengers,” denounced Mr. Étienne.
Among the victims is a traveler who bought his ticket via an online agency. Arriving at the airport, he discovered that his document was invalid.
This case reignites concerns about the proliferation of scams in the Haitian aviation sector.
