At the end of her mission in Haiti, Maria Isabel Salvador shared an emotional message, praising the resilience of the Haitian people. “Haiti is a country that deeply touched me through the warmth of its people,” she said, expressing her gratitude to those who marked her time there.
Since her appointment as head of BINUH in March 2023, this seasoned Ecuadorian diplomat has supported Haitian institutions through a turbulent period. Drawing on her experience as a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, she worked for peace, justice, and the strengthening of human rights.
In her farewell message, she emphasized that the legacy of Haiti’s ancestors remains a driving force for building a shared future. She urged citizens to dream of a united, just, and supportive Haiti—and to believe in its realization.
