TPC Demands Legal Action Against Sanctioned Haitian Figures

May 9, 2025

The Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) is calling on Haitian judicial institutions to take up the cases of individuals sanctioned by the international community. In a letter addressed on Monday, April 28, to Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, Council President Fritz Alphonse Jean demanded urgent action.

This initiative aims to ensure Haiti’s compliance with its international commitments in the fight against corruption, money laundering, and human rights violations. The Council is requesting a detailed report on the implementation of this directive as soon as possible.

Since 2022, several prominent Haitian political figures — including Michel Martelly, Laurent Lamothe, Jean-Henry Céant, Joseph Lambert, and Rony Célestin — have been sanctioned by Canada and the United States. They are accused of supporting or financing armed gangs and misappropriating public funds.

“The Council reminds judicial institutions of their duty to address these cases,” Fritz Jean emphasized in his letter. He hopes these legal proceedings will help restore credibility to the nation’s authorities.

The Transitional Presidential Council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency and integrity within the State. It expects concrete actions that will demonstrate Haiti no longer tolerates impunity.
