On Thursday, Federal Judge Indira Talwani temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s decision to terminate the Humanitarian Parole program, providing protection to more than 500,000 individuals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
The judge ruled that ending the program without following the required administrative procedures could violate the Administrative Procedure Act.
The program, originally implemented under the Biden administration, was slated for cancellation on March 25, 2025, sparking concern among its beneficiaries. In rejecting the April 24 grace period requested by the executive branch, the judge emphasized that immigration laws must be applied fairly and in accordance with the law.
During the April 10 hearing, Judge Talwani underscored that individuals who entered the United States legally are entitled to have their rights respected.
The ruling offers a moment of relief for thousands of families facing imminent deportation.
