The deteriorating security situation in Haiti remains a major concern. In this context, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio has recently condemned the escalating gang violence on the island.
In a message posted on Twitter, Rubio stated that he had spoken with Fritz Alphonse Jean, President of the Presidential Transition Council, about the ongoing crisis in Port-au-Prince. He also commended the efforts of the Haitian National Police and international personnel working to restore stability in the country.
For his part, Fritz Alphonse Jean shared on Twitter the outcomes of his “productive” discussions with the Prime Ministers of Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago. These meetings focused on regional challenges and opportunities for collaboration to strengthen cooperation between Haiti and the Caribbean.
These exchanges highlight the crucial role of regional diplomacy in managing Haiti’s crisis. However, the absence of Haiti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in these strategic discussions raises questions, as his participation could have reinforced Haiti’s position on the international stage and deepened conversations on security and regional cooperation.
