An armed attack struck Kenscoff (10 km southeast of Port-au-Prince) on the night of February 15-16, 2025, when heavily armed gangs assaulted the former Téléco site, a location under the control of the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd’H in French). The confrontation resulted in the death of one soldier and left two others wounded. In response to the offensive, security forces were swiftly deployed to counter the threat and restore order.
A joint intervention by the Haitian National Police (HNP) and the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission repelled some of the assailants, and several were arrested. However, the violence of the attack left lasting impacts on the area—houses were set on fire, and an officer from the Protected Areas Security Brigade (BSAP) remains missing, raising concerns among authorities and the local population.
According to HNP Director General Normil Rameau, operations are ongoing to secure the area and track down those involved in the deadly incursion. The recapture of the base by law enforcement marks a significant setback for the gangs, but the situation remains worrisome due to persistent tensions. Gunshots continue to be heard as of late Monday night February 17.
