The prosecutor’s office attached to the Port-au-Prince Court of First Instance has summoned former Senator Moïse Jean-Charles for a hearing scheduled for Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 10:00 AM. In an official correspondence, the Government Commissioner indicates that this summons follows “statements disseminated on social media, likely to disturb social order and undermine public peace.”
This decision comes after a rally organized on Sunday, July 12, in Cap-Haïtien, where the leader of the Pitit Dessalines party announced his intention to relaunch mobilizations against the government of Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé after the 2026 World Cup. During his speech, he notably mentioned “operations of déchouquage and arson” if his political demands were not taken into account.
According to the judicial document, Moïse Jean-Charles is “invited to appear before the Prosecutor’s Office” in order “to be heard on the aforementioned facts,” with the public prosecutor’s office specifying that “his presence is required on the date and time indicated.” This hearing is intended to allow judicial authorities to hear the former parliamentarian on statements considered to constitute a potential threat to public order.
A recurring figure in the Haitian opposition, Moïse Jean-Charles has already distinguished himself in the past with controversial positions calling for street movements and radical actions against the authorities in power. The prosecutor’s summons comes in a political context marked by strong tensions, as authorities claim to want to prevent any incitement to violence that could further destabilize the country.
