The Prime Minister Calls for a New Security Strategy at the Sectoral Table

December 1, 2025

On Thursday, November 27, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé spoke at the Sectoral Table on Security, organized by the CARDH at the Karibe Hotel. While the official agenda focused on transforming the MMAS into the Gang Repression Force (FRG), the meeting mainly highlighted the State’s struggle to assert its authority over the territory.

The Prime Minister described the FRG as “a signal of hope for the population,” announcing a new stage in the fight against crime. Despite these announcements, gangs continue to dominate certain areas, and security remains more of an aspiration than a tangible reality.

Fils-Aimé emphasized the need for “strengthened national unity” to support security forces and restore State authority. However, this call runs up against persistent political divisions and growing public distrust toward institutions.

He also welcomed the support of international partners and reaffirmed the CPT’s willingness to collaborate with the government. In practice, these commitments remain largely theoretical, and the population is still waiting to see whether these words will translate into concrete actions on the ground.
