The Haitian National Police Reinforces Its Security Measures For February 7 And 8

February 6, 2026

As the sensitive dates of February 7 and 8 approach, the Haitian National Police (HNP) has placed the Southeast Department on heightened alert to prevent any disturbance of public order. The announcement was made by Commissioner Gary Victor, who outlined an exceptional security strategy covering the period from January 31 to February 18.

The plan includes the temporary suspension of all firearm carry permits, increased patrols, and tighter checkpoints along strategic routes. Police forces will be fully mobilized, with particular attention paid to public institutions, markets, and high-traffic areas.

In connection with the national carnival of Jacmel scheduled for February 8, specific measures will be enforced to secure the festivities. The carrying of weapons and the use of glass containers will be strictly prohibited, while specialized units will be deployed to ensure the safety of revelers.
