A delegation from the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) is continuing its consultations in Canada regarding the possibility of integrating Haitians living abroad into the electoral process. Composed in particular of Secretary General Peterson Pierre-Louis, Treasurer Nemrod Sanon and Councilor Schnaïda Adely, the delegation met with representatives of Global Affairs Canada on August 27, 2026.
This meeting is part of the steps undertaken by the CEP with several countries hosting large Haitian communities, in order to study the conditions necessary for implementing a pilot experiment in diaspora voting. The discussions focused on electoral cooperation between the two countries as well as on the institutional, technical and logistical arrangements necessary for organizing the vote for Haitians established in Canada.
The exchanges also continued with members of Elections Canada. On that occasion, the Haitian delegation presented the main orientations adopted for electoral preparations and gathered information on the Canadian experience, particularly regarding accessibility, voter identification and mechanisms intended to guarantee the integrity and transparency of the vote.
Through this mission, the CEP states that it wants to lay the foundations for a more inclusive electoral participation of Haitians living abroad. The institution reiterates its willingness to conduct the electoral process in compliance with the principles of independence, impartiality, transparency and electoral integrity, while guaranteeing the right of every citizen to participate in the democratic life of the country.
