The CARICOM GPE Calls for Further Discussions on the Transitional Presidential Council

February 11, 2025

The Group of Eminent Persons (GPE) of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has recently invited leaders and coordinators from sectors represented in the Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) to a videoconference scheduled for February 6 at 3:00 PM. This initiative aims to continue discussions on the issues surrounding the TPC, following previous meetings and the commitment of various sectors to submit proposals. So far, only one proposal, signed by three sectors, has been received, but it requires further modifications.

The upcoming discussions will focus on the current Haitian and international context, proposals and suggestions regarding the TPC, and future directions. This initiative comes as several entities, including the Collective of Political Parties of January 30, the Engaged for Development (EDE) movement, and the signatories of the December 21 Agreement, have recently submitted a joint proposal aimed at restructuring the TPC and laying the groundwork for a sustainable resolution to the crisis.

At the same time, the political alliance “AGIR” has proposed the formation of a restricted Presidential Council composed of three members, accompanied by a government led by a technical Prime Minister and consisting of twelve ministers, as well as Secretaries of State for Public Security and Integration of Persons with Disabilities.

These initiatives reflect the willingness of Haitian political actors to reach a consensual solution to the current crisis. The CARICOM GPE, acting as a mediator, continues to facilitate dialogue among the various stakeholders, hoping to reach an agreement that will restore political and institutional stability in Haiti.
