The mobilization of students from the Faculty of Medicine once again turned tragic this Wednesday in Bourdon, where one of the protesters was shot. The group was heading toward the Prime Minister’s Office in Musseau to demand the reopening of the General Hospital, a demand that intern doctors have been making for several weeks.
According to initial information, the wounded student was participating in this new day of protest organized to denounce the authorities’ lack of response to the prolonged closure of the hospital facility. The protesters particularly blame the Minister of Public Health and Population, Bertrand Sinal, for not having responded to their repeated calls.
This new demonstration comes just days after a march organized by the same students advocating for the same demands. On that occasion, the Haitian National Police was heavily criticized for its excessive use of tear gas against the protesters, an intervention that sparked numerous reactions.
