Samir Handal Arrested by the FBI in the Jovenel Moïse Assassination Case

October 5, 2026

Samir Handal finds himself at the center of the judicial case linked to the assassination of former Haitian President Jovenel Moïse.

According to available information, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested him and charged him for his alleged involvement in the murder of the head of state, which occurred on the night of July 7, 2021, at his residence in Pétion-Ville.

This arrest constitutes a new step in a case that has mobilized Haitian and American authorities for several years.

Jovenel Moïse was killed during an armed attack in which his wife, Martine Moïse, was also injured.

Samir Handal thus joins the list of individuals prosecuted in connection with this case. However, the charges brought against him will have to be established in court.

In the United States, several defendants have already appeared as part of the judicial proceedings related to the assassination of the former Haitian president.
