Reopening of Roads, Essential Prerequisite for Elections according to Antoine Michon

The French Ambassador to Haiti, Antoine Michon, considers that the holding of the upcoming elections depends above all on a sufficient level of security. During an exchange with the press, he indicated that the reopening of the main road axes constituted an essential condition for ensuring the organization of the election throughout the territory.

According to the diplomat, this reopening is indispensable for the deployment of electoral materials and the participation of voters, particularly in areas such as Martissant, Carrefour, Canaan, Cité Soleil, and Croix-des-Bouquets. He also emphasized that candidates must be able to campaign freely and that citizens must be able to vote without the influence of armed groups.

Antoine Michon considered a postponement of the first round conceivable if security conditions are not met by November, estimating that this possibility is provided for by the approach adopted by the Provisional Electoral Council. At the end of his mission, he also welcomed several advances in the new electoral decree, particularly measures aimed at strengthening political parties and improving the processing of electoral disputes.
