The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP in French) officially closed, this Thursday at 4:00 p.m., the registration period for political parties for the upcoming electoral cycle.
Launched on March 2, this crucial phase saw record participation, reaching a total of 320 registered political groups.
The final day was particularly busy, with around thirty applications submitted at the last minute at the institution’s offices.
According to internal sources, several new parties took advantage of the final stretch to comply with electoral law.
Among the parties that finalized their registration on Thursday is REKONSILYE.
Its president, Jean Junior Jiha, a former Senate candidate for the Centre department in 2016, personally submitted the application in the morning. He was accompanied by key collaborators and a small group of supporters who came to mark the occasion.
“We are reaching an essential administrative milestone today. REKONSILYE is now in the race to offer a unifying alternative,” Mr. Jiha stated upon leaving the CEP, without further comment on potential alliances.
Other parties such as EDE, AYIDA, and ANSANM NOU FÒ were also seen in the Council’s offices during the week.
The CEP indicated that applications are now under review.
The final list of parties authorized to participate in the elections will be published on March 26, in accordance with the electoral calendar.
This publication will officially confirm the participation of the 320 parties, including REKONSILYE, in what is shaping up to be a more fragmented political landscape than ever.
