The Haitian government deeply regrets the tragic death of Officer Garry Lyma, a member of the Anti-Gang Tactical Unit (UTAG), who was killed during a high-risk operation in Mirebalais. In response to this devastating loss, the Prime Minister—who also serves as President of the High Council of the National Police—expressed “deep sorrow” and paid tribute to the officer, who died in the line of duty protecting the public.
“This defender of public order died a hero, fighting for the safety of his fellow citizens,” stated the Prime Minister’s Office, honoring the memory of a police officer whose exemplary commitment commands respect. Reflecting on Officer Lyma’s bravery, the Head of Government emphasized his “sacrifice, courage, and selflessness,” qualities that embody the highest ideals of public service.
In this time of shared grief, the Prime Minister extended “his deepest condolences” to the officer’s family, his colleagues at UTAG, and the entire Haitian National Police. The loss of this officer serves as a painful reminder of the risks faced daily by those who work to safeguard citizens—often at the cost of their own lives.
The government reaffirmed its full support for the PNH and reiterated its commitment to pursuing the fight against insecurity to the very end. “The State remains resolutely committed to restoring lasting peace in Haiti,” declared the Prime Minister, calling for national solidarity in support of the country’s law enforcement officers.
