OKLAHOMA CITY – November 21, 2024 – According to several major outlets, including The New York Times and Reuters, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has lifted the ban imposed on Haiti’s international airspace. This restriction was enacted after several airlines, including Spirit Airlines and JetBlue, reported that their planes had been struck by gunfire allegedly linked to armed gangs. Flights by U.S. airlines to Haiti had been suspended for at least 30 days, leaving hundreds of people stranded.
Shortly after the ban was implemented, the Haitian airline Sunrise Airways announced the resumption of flights between Cap-Haïtien and Miami starting November 20, 2024. These flights had become the only means of entering or leaving Haiti during the suspension period.
With the FAA’s decision to lift the restriction, U.S. airlines can now resume their flights to Haiti, thereby restoring normal access to the country for international travelers.
