Haiti is strengthening its presence in major international health bodies with the election of the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Bertrand Sinal, to the Vice-Presidency of the World Health Organization’s Executive Board for the Region of the Americas. This appointment occurred in Geneva, on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly and the 159th session of the Executive Board, in which the Haitian delegation participated.
The minister reacted to this nomination, calling it a mark of confidence in Haiti and a significant responsibility for the country. He believes this election reflects the necessity of allowing states facing crises and structural fragilities to actively participate in the major orientations of global health policies.
Within the Executive Board, Dr. Sinal states his intention to advocate for an organization closer to the lived realities of populations, especially in the most vulnerable countries. According to him, Haiti will champion a position focused on equity, respect for human dignity, and responses tailored to health and humanitarian emergencies.
For Haitian authorities, this election also represents recognition of the country’s ability to make its voice heard despite the difficulties it faces. The minister emphasized the resilience of the Haitian people and their desire to contribute to international debates related to public health and solidarity among nations.
