Haiti: General Strike by Saint-Luc and NPFS After Shocking Kidnapping at Saint-Hélène Orphanage

August 5, 2025

Following the kidnapping of nine people — including a three-year-old child and Irish volunteer Gena Heraty — the Saint-Luc Foundation and Nos Petits Frères et Sœurs (NPFS) have suspended all operations. Since August 3, 2025, Saint Damien Hospital, the Family Hospital, and other affiliated institutions have remained closed until the unconditional release of the hostages.

The dawn attack on the Saint-Hélène Orphanage in Tête Bois-Pins (Kenscoff) has deeply shocked the public. In a joint statement, both organizations condemned the authorities’ inaction and the climate of impunity that allows armed groups to target the most vulnerable without consequence.
