Haiti Faces 23 Potential Cyclonic Systems in 2026

June 3, 2026

The 2026 hurricane season officially began on June 1 across the Caribbean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the North Atlantic. According to forecasts from Haiti’s Hydrometeorological Unit (UHM), fourteen tropical storms and nine hurricanes could form over the next six months, including three major hurricanes.

In light of these forecasts, meteorological authorities are urging public and private institutions, local governments, non-governmental organizations, and media outlets to strengthen awareness and preparedness efforts. The objective is to better anticipate risks and reduce the impact of potential cyclonic events.

The UHM is also calling on the population to closely follow official weather bulletins and adopt the necessary preventive measures. Families are encouraged to identify vulnerable areas, develop emergency plans, and secure their homes in order to face this new hurricane season with greater confidence. The season is scheduled to end on November 30.
