On July 1, Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste met with Brazil’s ambassador, Luis Fernando Carvalho, to discuss key issues including security, development, and citizen inclusion. According to the ministry, the meeting focused on “fighting poverty, promoting voter participation, and ensuring Haitians have a voice in major decisions.”
The discussion helped reinforce ties between the two countries in sensitive areas such as police training, support for the Haitian Armed Forces, and agriculture. Special attention was given to the poultry sector, seen as a way to improve food security.
Minister Jean-Baptiste emphasized the importance of a structured cooperation aligned with national priorities and respectful of the country’s sovereignty. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to holding elections before the end of the year as proof of its democratic engagement.
Both parties agreed that active citizen participation is essential for the success of public policies. For the Haitian authorities, the goal is to place “Haitians at the center of decisions that affect them.”
An official visit from the Director General of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) is expected soon to accelerate existing projects. This renewed partnership reflects a shared desire to work toward stability, progress, and more inclusive development.
