Delmas Launches Forceful Operation to Reclaim Sidewalks

February 11, 2026

The Delmas municipal government has decided to act in response to the proliferation of illegal constructions on public space. Beginning Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 10 a.m., a demolition operation will target unauthorized structures erected on the commune’s sidewalks.

Municipal authorities justify the initiative on grounds of security and urban mobility. According to the city hall, these occupations severely obstruct pedestrian traffic and expose users, particularly the most vulnerable, to constant risks.

This situation, which has persisted for several years, is viewed as a direct affront to urban order and the collective interest. Municipal officials recall that sidewalks are primarily intended for pedestrians and cannot be diverted for private purposes.

Aware of the sensitivity of the measure, authorities are calling on the population for understanding and cooperation. They present this operation as a necessary step toward a safer, more accessible city that respects urban planning regulations.
