The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) officially confirmed this Monday, July 27, the electoral operations calendar for the 2026-2027 period, putting an end to uncertainties regarding the main deadlines of the process. The institution announces that the first round of the presidential election, legislative elections, as well as the referendum on proposed constitutional amendments, will be held on December 13, 2026.
According to the calendar published by the CEP, the second round of the presidential and legislative elections, as well as the local elections, are scheduled for February 21, 2027. This schedule marks an important step in the organization of the elections and provides an official framework for the various electoral operations ahead.
The electoral institution specifies, however, that meeting these deadlines remains conditional on two essential factors: the establishment of an acceptable security climate across the entire territory and the mobilization of the financial resources necessary for the continuation of preparations. The CEP also recalls that the success of the process depends on shared responsibility between the government, political actors, civil society, and national and international partners.
In its press release, the Provisional Electoral Council reaffirms its commitment to conducting the elections in accordance with the principles of independence, inclusion, transparency, and democratic accountability. It calls on all stakeholders to support the efforts underway to enable the holding of these elections within the announced timeframe.
