Amnesty International Denounces Risks of Drone Strikes in Haiti

June 2, 2026

Amnesty International expressed strong concerns in a statement released on May 14, 2026, regarding the use of armed drones in Haiti. The organization believes these operations directly expose civilians, including children, to serious human rights violations.

Ana Piquer, Director for the Americas at Amnesty International, warned that the current security crisis is already severely impacting the youngest. A report published by the organization in February 2025 documented children being recruited by gangs, becoming victims of sexual violence, assassinations, and being deprived of access to education and basic healthcare.

For its part, Human Rights Watch, in a report published in March 2025, recorded over 1,200 deaths and 738 injuries linked to 141 drone strikes carried out between March 2025 and January 2026 in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area. These operations were reportedly conducted by the private military company Vectus Global, led by Erik Prince, in support of Haitian security forces.
