During a visit to Les Cayes on May 7, 2025, Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé delivered a speech firmly focused on restoring democratic order through the ballot box. He reaffirmed that holding free and inclusive elections is the cornerstone of the current transition.
Addressing local authorities, citizens, and various social actors, the head of government emphasized that popular sovereignty remains the only true source of legitimacy. “The transition I am leading has a clear roadmap: security, Constitution, elections,” he declared with conviction.
To support this direction, the Executive, in coordination with the Presidential Transition Council, has unlocked unprecedented financial resources. A revised budget now channels state funds toward security, social stability, and implementation of the electoral process.
More than 65 million U.S. dollars have already been mobilized for this purpose, along with a 750 million gourde envelope to support political parties. This logistical support is part of a drive for fairness and transparency—two essential conditions for credible elections.
The Prime Minister also stressed that the people must play a central role in the process. “Elections are the people’s business. They are the foundation of all legitimate governance,” he insisted, calling on youth, women, the diaspora, and local communities to engage actively.
This visit to the Greater South, accompanied notably by Minister for Haitians Living Abroad Kathia Verdier, the Director General of the Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT), and Secretary of State for Public Security Mario Andrésol, underscores a commitment to rooting political action in local realities. Carrying the voice of the state, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé is working to rebuild the bond between the nation and its institutions through the democratic path.
