More than 141,000 people were forced to return to Haiti between January and June 2026, according to data collected by GARR, the National Migration Office (ONM), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). A total of 141,720 forced returns were recorded during this period, an 11% increase compared to the first half of 2025, with June being the most marked period, accounting for 26,568 returns.
The Dominican Republic is by far the main country of origin for returned persons, while the other cases concern various countries in the region. For its part, the Dominican General Directorate of Migration (DGM) claims to have repatriated 196,321 Haitian nationals in an irregular situation during the first six months of the year, illustrating the scale of the migration control policy conducted by Santo Domingo.
Alongside land expulsions, attempts to leave by sea continue to reflect the migratory pressure on the Haitian population. At the end of May, a vessel carrying 240 Haitian migrants was intercepted near the Turks and Caicos Islands while taking on water, an operation carried out with the support of American and local authorities.
