On January 29-30, 2025, the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH in French) held a two-day training workshop for members of Haitian civil society. Supported by several international partners, the event aimed to strengthen participants’ ability to handle complaints related to misconduct and human rights violations involving the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission.
Thirty-one participants, including representatives from human rights organizations, child protection groups, youth associations, the Haitian National Police (HNP), and the MSS, attended the training. The goal was to familiarize them with protocols, procedures, and responsibilities for receiving, processing, and responding to reports of abuse, including sexual and gender-based violence.
The workshop was part of ongoing efforts by BINUH and its partners to enhance transparency and accountability in MSS operations. Participants received training on implementing the complaint and reporting mechanism, a critical tool for ensuring allegations of abuse are handled efficiently and fairly.
The event received financial support from various entities, including the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the British government through @CDOGovUK and @UKInHaiti, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the MSS trust fund. This international collaboration underscores the importance of protecting human rights in Haiti and preventing abuses within security support missions.
