Diplomatic Corps Members Urge Four Acceptable TPC Advisors to Prevent Deterioration and Avoid Undermining Transition

November 11, 2024

Political tensions in Haiti are intensifying as new disputes emerge within the Transitional Presidential Council (TPC). According to exclusive reports from local media on Friday afternoon, a diplomatic source confirmed that the international community has officially sent a letter to four TPC advisors deemed acceptable. This correspondence urges them to immediately halt the perilous political course they are currently following in managing the transition.

The advisors addressed in this message are Leslie Voltaire, Laurent Saint-Cyr, Edgard Leblanc Fils, and Fritz Alphonse Jean. Notably, the three other TPC advisors, who are suspected of involvement in a corruption scandal with the Banque Nationale de Crédit (BNC), did not receive this communication. This move by the international community appears to signal an intent to isolate the controversial members of the Council and to steer the transition toward a more diplomatically acceptable path.

As internal tensions escalate, the Transitional Presidential Council is reportedly preparing to take a decisive step: the dismissal of Prime Minister Garry Conille. A source close to the TPC confirmed that the Council has already drafted a resolution to this effect, signed by six of the seven voting members, excluding Edgard Leblanc Fils. This resolution has been forwarded to the National Press for official publication as of Friday evening.

The impending announcement of Garry Conille’s dismissal has sparked speculation about his potential successor. Several names are circulating, though no official confirmation has been made.

It’s important to note that even in a standard situation where a functioning parliament exists, a resolution—regardless of its importance—does not carry binding authority to bring down a government.
