Prime Minister Garry Conille, returning from a diplomatic mission to the United Arab Emirates and Kenya, gave an encouraging update on Tuesday, October 15, regarding his meetings with key partners in the fight against the insecurity ravaging Haiti. Invited by Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, and Kenyan President William Ruto, Conille emphasized the importance of these discussions in strengthening the country’s security capabilities.
During his speech at Toussaint Louverture International Airport, the Prime Minister stressed the urgent need for Haiti to bolster its resources in the fight against armed gangs, stating that there should no longer be any “lost territory” under their control. “The country urgently needs critical assistance in human resources, equipment, heavy machinery, and technological means to effectively address this scourge,” Garry Conille said, stressing that these elements are essential to restoring security.
The mission to the United Arab Emirates was marked by the promise of security equipment support, aimed at the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAD’H), as part of a new partnership between the two countries. Conille clarified that this support is intended to strengthen the Haitian law enforcement agencies in their daily fight against criminal violence.
Additionally, the Prime Minister confirmed the imminent deployment of 600 Kenyan police officers to Haiti, highlighting that this international reinforcement aims to boost the operational capacity of Haitian authorities on the ground. He also welcomed future commitments in areas such as food security, energy, intelligence, and border protection, all of which are critical to the country’s stability.
These initiatives, resulting from his discussions with the leaders of the UAE and Kenya, represent significant progress in Haiti’s quest to restore security and re-establish order across its territories.
