Milourie Sylfrard, a prominent figure in the Ouanaminthe hydraulic project, tragically passed away during the night of October 11 to 12, 2024, leaving behind a mourning community. Originally from Mont-Organisé, the 30-year-old woman, affectionately nicknamed “Fanm Kanal la” by her close ones, made a significant mark as a metalworker on the construction site of the Ouanaminthe canal, located on the Massacre River. Her unwavering dedication to this project, which she considered vital for the economic and agricultural development of the region, left a deep impression.
Milourie Sylfrard had been suffering for several months from an illness with symptoms that had recently intensified. According to her family, she was admitted to the hospital a few days before her death for tests due to chest pain. The doctors found no anomalies, and she was discharged. Unfortunately, her condition worsened suddenly on the evening of October 11, and she passed away in the early hours of the morning, shortly after 1 a.m.
Her sudden death has left an immense void in her community. Milourie, who had no children, had also experienced personal tragedies with the deaths of two newborns shortly after their births.
