Candidate Registration: Electoral Council Grants Additional Deadline Until October 9

October 5, 2026

The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP in French) announces an extension for online candidate registration and the submission of required documents. This decision comes following persistent requests made by approved political structures.

According to a press release published this September 16, the organizations concerned now have until October 9, 2026, to finalize their procedures. The CEP thus intends to address the difficulties raised by several actors involved in the electoral process.

In parallel, the electoral institution indicates it is continuing exchanges with political actors and the Government regarding a possible modification of the electoral decree currently in force. These discussions are taking place while the various parties continue preparations leading up to the upcoming elections.

Furthermore, the CEP reaffirms its commitment to conducting an “inclusive, impartial, and transparent” process, while affirming its intention to respect principles of independence and democratic accountability. The institution thus recalls its commitment to continuing electoral operations within the framework established by current regulations.
