Haitian businessman Dimitri Vorbe was released on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after nearly eleven months of detention in a U.S. immigration center.
According to information reported by Le Nouvelliste, an agreement is said to have been reached for him to leave the United States in the coming days.
Detained since September 23, 2025, Vorbe was thus able to reunite with his family.
His release comes a few days after an order by federal judge Darrin P. Gayles, who had demanded an individual bail hearing no later than August 24 or his release under reasonable conditions of supervision.
The case is part of an immigration procedure invoking a provision allowing the U.S. Secretary of State to consider that a foreigner represents a threat to the foreign policy of the United States.
Marco Rubio had estimated that Vorbe’s presence could lead to serious consequences.
Aged 53, the businessman must now leave American territory, while the immigration procedure remains ongoing.
