A night of violence shook the heights of the Haitian capital. A large-scale armed offensive, launched during the night of August 23 to 24, targeted the areas of Kenscoff and Thomassin 52, causing a heavy human and material toll. Unofficial numbers report about 40 deaths.
According to a security report, the attack was launched around 10:00 PM from the Madeleine and Boukan sectors. The assailants advanced to the outskirts of the city, spreading terror. The toll reports at least six dead, numerous homes burned, and hostage-takings, including that of Pastor Yonel. The Sainte Philomène school was also reduced to ashes. Two police officers were injured, but their lives are not believed to be in danger.
Faced with the advance of the gangs, law enforcement, supported by the use of kamikaze drones, intervened to contain the assault. Control of the area was regained around 2:00 AM, although isolated detonations persist.
Three penetration axes were identified by analysts, suggesting a studied tactical maneuver. The report also highlights a risk of a new offensive in the short term, with armed reinforcements from Carrefour, Village de Dieu, Grand Ravine, and Fontamara reported heading toward the sector.
Simultaneously, heavy exchanges of gunfire were reported in Grancié, in the Belvue area (Gressier corridor), indicating possible coordination among armed groups to extend their influence toward the heights of Pétion-Ville. The situation remains extremely volatile and the population is urged to exercise the utmost vigilance.
