The Secretary-General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin, welcomed the publication of the 2026-2027 electoral calendar by Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), announced on Monday, July 27. He considers this step an important signal in the perspective of restoring democratic and constitutional governance in the country.
In a statement issued after the CEP’s announcement, Albert Ramdin recalled that the first round of elections is scheduled for December 13, 2026, while a possible second round could be held on February 21, 2027. The OAS official estimated that this calendar opens a new phase in the process of returning to institutional order.
The regional organization states that it is willing to accompany the Haitian authorities in the preparation of an electoral process meeting the requirements of credibility, inclusion, transparency, and security. Albert Ramdin nonetheless insisted that this process must be led by Haitians themselves, with the objective of strengthening confidence in future elected institutions.
