Clugny Market Fire: $30,000 Distributed to 70 Affected Vendors

February 18, 2026

Following the devastating fire at Clugny Market on January 25 in Cap-Haïtien, Dr. Berthrude Albert quickly mobilized the diaspora to assist victims. Through this appeal, $30,000 was raised, enabling direct financial support for affected merchants and firefighters on the ground.

Seventy vendors who lost everything received $400 each, providing immediate relief amid acute economic distress. Firefighters, who faced significant logistical challenges during the response, also received a $2,000 contribution in recognition of their commitment.

This gesture aligns with Dr. Albert’s longstanding efforts to support vulnerable communities. She has notably been involved in major initiatives such as the Ouanaminthe Canal, a citizen-led project aimed at strengthening agricultural irrigation and economic autonomy in the country’s Northeast.

In Clugny as in Ouanaminthe, the approach remains the same: act swiftly and without empty rhetoric where the state and institutions are slow to respond. In a country frequently struck by successive crises, Dr. Albert’s engagement stands out as a rare example of operational and sustained solidarity.
