The Haitian National Police (HNP) reopened, on Saturday, February 7, the Airport Roundabout substation, a symbolic site abandoned since an armed attack in March 2024. The ceremony was led by the West Departmental Director, Commissioner Jacques Ader, amid a reinforced security offensive.
Burned during violence attributed to the criminal coalition Viv Ansanm, the building had been inactive for nearly two years. Its reopening is part of a strategy of gradual reconquest of areas previously controlled by gangs.
On site, Commissioner Ader emphasized the significance of the move, stating that “life is timidly resuming” in the area. He affirmed that the renewed police presence reflects “the determination of law enforcement” and the high command’s commitment to restoring peace.
For the HNP, this reopening also serves as a direct warning to armed groups. “The game is over,” Jacques Ader declared firmly, calling on the population to support the police and praising the courage of the units involved in this territorial recovery operation.
