Kidnapping: Professional Association of Magistrates Demands the Release of Judge Jean Frédéric Beneche

February 7, 2026

The Professional Association of Magistrates (APM) expressed its “indignation” on February 6, 2026, following the abduction of magistrate Jean Frédéric Beneche, a judge at the Port-au-Prince Court of Appeal since late January.

In a statement, the APM strongly condemned the act and demanded the “immediate and unconditional” release of their colleague. The association urgently called on authorities to take “all necessary measures” to ensure the safety of magistrates and to strengthen efforts to combat insecurity.

The association reaffirmed its solidarity with the judge’s family and the entire judiciary, declaring itself mobilized to defend the integrity of Haiti’s judicial system.
