On Thursday, January 22, 2026, units of the Haitian National Police (HNP), notably from the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ), raided the residence of Ralph Youri Chevry, interim mayor of Port-au-Prince, using armored vehicles in an operation marked by numerous gunshots heard within the perimeter.
No official charges have yet been communicated by authorities, and the executive official was no longer on the premises at the time of the police intervention.
This action occurs amid an already tense security and political climate in Port-au-Prince, where previous operations had targeted Chevry’s residence without a clear warrant, raising concerns about respect for legal procedures and the principle of home inviolability.
During a search in December 2025, Mr. Chevry had denounced the absence of a warrant and prior notification, emphasizing the unconstitutional nature of such interventions under Haiti’s Constitution and Code of Criminal Procedure.
