136 Haitians Expelled from the United States on January 8

January 23, 2026

U.S. authorities proceeded on Thursday, January 8, 2026, with the deportation of 136 Haitian nationals under existing migration mechanisms. The operation was carried out by air aboard a specially chartered flight.

Before their expulsion, those concerned had been apprehended in several U.S. states and then transferred to various detention centers. These detentions preceded the logistical organization of the repatriation flight.

According to U.S. authorities, all the expelled migrants are accused of having entered U.S. territory irregularly. This offense constitutes the main legal basis justifying their removal.

The aircraft carrying the returnees landed during the day at Cap-Haïtien International Airport. Upon arrival, the 136 Haitians were taken into charge by local authorities, without any official details being given regarding planned support measures.
